PART 1 – Know The APUSH Exam Clock

Official APUSH Exam Timing

MCQ — 55 min × 55 questions

  • About 1 minute per question
  • 40% of your total score

SAQ — 40 min

  • About 13 minutes per question set
  • 20% of your total score

DBQ — 60 min

  • Includes a 15-minute reading period
  • 25% of your total score — the single highest-weighted section

LEQ — 40 min

  • One long essay, no prompt choice since May 2027
  • 15% of your total score

PART 2 – MCQ + SAQ Pacing

Simple Pacing Formula

MCQ — 55Q / 55min

  • 15m → Q1–15
  • 15m → Q16–30
  • 15m → Q31–45
  • 10m → Q46–55 + revisions
